What they got was a forced march to the Oklahoma Territory, caused the Trail of Tears where many of the Cherokee died on the trek to the Oklahoma territory. It was a really bad move on Andrew Jackson's part our 7th President of the United States.

The purpose of the Indian Removal Act was to take the Indians to the land west of the Mississippi River.

The Act authorized him to negotiate with the Indians in the Southern United States for their removal to federal territory west of the Mississippi River in exchange for their homelands.
Estimates suggest that around 4,000 - 6,000 Native Americans died during the forced relocation known as the Trail of Tears under the Indian Removal Act. This tragic event occurred in the 1830s and primarily involved the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Choctaw, Creek, and Seminole tribes.

The Indians removal act impacted white settlers by opening new territories foe them. The white settlers were afraid of this as the feared the Indians would retaliate.
It was used to force Indians from their homes.
The trail that the Indians walked on was nicknamed "The Trail Of Tears".
