Christian Rudolph ka Buddy Ebsen, Jr. [April 2, 1908-July 6, 2003] originally was chosen to play the Scarecrow in the 1939 film version of The Wizard of Oz. But Raymond Wallace Bulcao ka Ray Bolger [January 10, 1904-January 15, 1987] didn't want to play the Tin Woodman. So he persuaded producer Mervyn LeRoy [October 15, 1900-September 13, 1987] to reassign the roles. Ebsen acted in the role of the Tin Woodman through nine days' of filming. But when he reacted to the toxicity of the aluminum powder in his daily make-up, he was replaced by John Joseph ka Jack Haley, Jr. [August 10, 1898-June 6, 1979].
