Nigel George Planer [b. February 22, 1953] is an English actor, novelist and playwright. He was first in the role of the Wizard for London's West End production of Wicked at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. Desmond Barrit [b. October 19, 1944] took over the role of Wizard, from Planer, in summer 2008. He is an award-winning British actor of stage and of Royal Shakespearean productions. He also is known for his less frequent appearances in character roles for film and television.
