Brom Bones resorted to pranks in attempts to get back at Ichabod
The river near Sleepy Hollow is called the Hudson River. It plays a significant role in Washington Irving's "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" as it sets the eerie and atmospheric backdrop for the story.
um.. i really dont know but just let u know this is the summary of the sleepy hollow. The story is set circa 1790 in the Dutch settlement of Tarry Town, in a secluded glen called Sleepy Hollow. It tells the story ofIchabod Crane, a sycophantic, lean, lanky, and extremely superstitious schoolmaster from Connecticut, who competes with Abraham "Brom Bones" Van Brunt, the town rowdy, for the hand of 18-year-old Katrina Van Tassel, the daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer, Baltus Van Tassel. As Crane leaves a party he attended at the Van Tassel home on an autumn night, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, who is supposedly the ghost of a Hessian trooper who had his head shot off by a stray cannonball during "some nameless battle" of the American Revolutionary War, and who "rides forth to the scene of battle in nightly quest of his head". Ichabod mysteriously disappears from town, leaving Katrina to marry Brom Bones, who was "to look exceedingly knowing whenever the story of Ichabod was related". Although the nature of the Headless Horseman is left open to interpretation, the story implies that the Horseman was really Brom Bones in disguise.
The main star is Johnny Depp.
The name "Crane" is suitable for Sleepy Hollow's schoolmaster because it evokes an image of elegance and fragility, similar to a bird. It also plays into the character's tall and slender appearance, as cranes are known for their slender necks. Lastly, the name Crane ties in with the mysterious and eerie atmosphere of Sleepy Hollow, adding to the schoolmaster's enigmatic persona.
Marc Pickering portrayed the character of Brom Bones in the 1999 television adaptation of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Brom Bones is a local hero and rival to Ichabod Crane, vying for the affection of Katrina Van Tassel. His character is known for his mischievous nature and plays a crucial role in the story's tension and eventual climax, particularly in relation to Ichabod's fate.
There are no completely "good" characters in "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." Every character has his or her agenda and acts out of selfish motives. Ichabod Crane is the protagonist of the story, but he has several flaws-- he enjoys food too much and "mooches" off the families of his students. When he meets Katrina Van Tassel, he is attracted to your physical beauty, but more so to the wealthy estate she stands to inherit as her father's only child. He is scared and skittish to the point of paranoia. His rival suitor for Katrina, Brom Bones, resorts to embarrassing Ichabod and playing practical jokes on him. He very well may have been disguised as "The Headless Horseman" when this figure literally scares Ichabod out of town. Katrina herself plays the two suitors against each other and leads Ichabod on only to ultimately choose Brom. I can't say that any of them are exactly heroic characters. I think Washington Irving, the author, meant them to be caricatures and the story a satire. (I am an English teacher and actually just read this story with my 7th-grade class last week!)
Sleepy lives in Florida now with his second wife, Annette, and her children. He plays fiddle on occasion.
Brom Bones is a character in Washington Irving's short story "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow." He is portrayed as a local braggart and rival to the protagonist, Ichabod Crane, particularly in his pursuit of the beautiful Katrina Van Tassel. Brom is known for his strength, boisterous personality, and mischief, and he ultimately plays a key role in the story's climax, leveraging local folklore to scare Ichabod away. His character embodies the themes of rivalry and the rivalry between city and country life.
