As Scream was both a slasher movie and a parody of classic slasher movies, there are many "inside jokes" and references to classic slasher movies. For example, when Casey's parents come home and discover the kitchen on fire and Casey missing, Casey's dad tells Casey's mom (or the other way around, I forget), "Go drive down to the McKenzie's place..." or something. In the original Halloween (1978), after Laurie (Jamie Lee Curtis) wounds Michael Myers and he's lying on the floor pretending to be dead, she tells the children to "run down to the McKenzie's" for help.

Another is the fact that Sidney's (Neve Campell's) boyfriend, Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), is always coming through her window to visit her. In the original Nightmare on Elm Street, the main character Nancy's (Heather Langenkamp's) boyfriend, Glen (played by a very young Johnny Depp, who also looks a lot like Skeet Ulrich) came through her window the exact same way.

Anyway, near the beginning of Halloween, when Laurie and her friend Annie are driving around in Annie's car, the Blue Oyster Cult song, "Don't Fear the Reaper" is playing.
