In the silent movie serial The Perils Of Pauline (1914), the actress Pearl White (who did her own stunts) was always involved in a deadly cliffhanger at the end of each episode.
There are many reports (said by some to be myth) regarding her most well known stunt, where she was tied to the railroad tracks and was rescued from a speeding train. Apparently the scene was filmed at a place now known to tourists as Pauline's Trestle, near New Hope, PA. A copy of this episode, however, has never been located.

Some scientists might know how many silent movies were made. Personally, I do not know, for silent movies were made quite a long time ago.
