I believe it was Thomas Andrews as he built the ship

Common misconception. Thomas Andrews was the Chief Naval Architect who built Titanic. However, he was not an official member of the vessel's crew. The job of a Ship's Carpenter involved not only being intimately familiar with the design of the ship, but also ensuring that she was properly outfitted with supplies such as coal, food, water, et cetera. In times of crisis, a ships carpenter is also tasked with advising the captain on the best way to save the vessel.

There were two carpenters aboard Titanic according to crew manifests. One was Mr. John Maxwell, 31, of Belfast. The other was Mr. John Hall Hutchinson, 26, also of Belfast.
