The following is a list of Presidents of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the dates they presided over the church during the nineteenth century:

Church first organized: 6 April 1830

Joseph Smith: 1830-1844

Church guided by Twelve Apostles, lead by Brigham Young: 1844-1847

Brigham Young: 1847-1877

Church guided by Twelve Apostles, lead by John Taylor: 1877-1880

John Taylor: 1880-1887

Church guided by Twelve Apostles, lead by Wilford Woodruff: 1887-1889

Wilford Woodruff: 1889-1898

Lorenzo Snow: 1898-1901

*Note: By the precedent set following Joseph Smith's death in 1844 when a president of the Mormon Church dies the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles as a body immediately becomes the highest governing council of the church. When the council decides it is best to re-organize the First Presidency the most senior Apostle becomes president of the church. Since the death of Wilford Woodruff in 1898, each time a president of the church has died the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles has elected to immediately re-organize the First Presidency.
