As capitalism ran almost unchecked in the US in the late 1900's, much progress was created by industrialists and inventors. The most wealthy people of power such as John D. Rockefeller and JP Morgan have the nicknames of "robber barons". Their freedom to make monopolies, and form anti-free trade trusts was eventually curtailed by presidents such as Theodore Roosevelt.
