Robert Bonham (July 16, 1805 - c. 1857) escaped by hiding in the sacristy until the fighting was over. When night fell, he sneaked out one of the unguarded holes in the wall and managed to untie one of the soldier's horses and walk it far enough out of town to gallop away without being heard. He testified to the complete rout of the Alamo and the behavior of the soldiers on both sides.
