One myth has it that Paris was asked to judge a beauty contest between Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite. In order to earn his favour, Aphrodite promised Paris the most beautiful woman in the world - who happened to be the already married Helen. Different literary sources differ on whether Helen joined Paris willingly or was abducted.
