Ryuk never had a side. He said in the begging that he wasnt Going to take anyones side. Then he said he wasnt improving on what Light was doing or L, and Near and Mello. He said one day he was going to write Lights name in His own Death Note. And he did. That was the ending. Which i cried for hours for D:
It depends on whose side you're on. On one side Light is the antagonist because he is killing people. On the other side L is the antagonist because he's trying to stop the main character Light from making the world. It really depend on how you see the situation, and who you see is "justice." There's also discussion of Ryuk being the antagonist since he brought the Death Note to Earth and started everything.
The Death Note manga is rated T+ for "older teen".

Well, Yes he was crying :( But he died like that because he was kira :( And i thought that was wrong. Becuz he was just trying to make a bright and ideal world. The people who shot him broke the law actually. Becuz then he had WON. And People were on HIS side then. He got what he wanted though :) Now he's a shinigami and in the world with Ryuk, and Misa. He was killed by being shot like that D: I cried for hours dude :(

Light the Mass Murderer[spoiler warning] If this question is directed to the anime version ending, then it does not mean Light Yagami is a bad person or anything you've porbably heard. The real fact was that the situation got so risky that Light or should I say Mikami had slipped up. there are many notes to be made here. Ryuk said that no one who uses the deathnote can find happiness and this was probably a foreshadow to the events of the last episode.Light dies after getting very far and killing L in the process. The fact that Light loses and ends up dead is to leave watchers with the question: Who was really the good person? Me aswell as many others would say that what Light planned to do was right aside from his god complex of course. In reality the world would be better off if many criminals and straight up "bad people" were dead, regardless of religious overtone. If you disagree with Light then you probably believe, more or less, that no one has the right to judge anyone or take their life.I don't agree with your statement. Murder is murder, whomever it truly is. If you kill a murderer, it makes you no better than that person. And Ryuuku, his true name in Japanese, states that no human can go to heaven or hell if they use the death note, meaning that Light was bound to die before his goal was completed.-----------Erm, actually..In the manga, it states that DEATH IS EQUAL.Everyone goes to MU - Nothingness.Using the Death Note or not, you still go to neither heaven or hell. The last book, 12, states that clearly.Light asks Ryuk if God exists, to which Ryuk replies with a 'No.' and says 'Death is EQUAL.'Glad I could help.-B.
