Napoleon Bonaparte was considered a hero in France for his role in stabilizing the country after the chaos of the French Revolution, implementing reforms that modernized the economy, legal system, and education. He rose to power through a combination of military success, political acumen, and popular support, culminating in his coup d'état in 1799 that led to his establishment as First Consul. His ability to inspire national pride and his vision for a unified France further solidified his status as a national hero. However, his ultimate ambition and imperial conquests also sparked controversy and conflict across Europe.
During the early 1800s, France was primarily under the rule of Napoleon Bonaparte, who rose to power after the French Revolution. He became the First Consul in 1799 and later declared himself Emperor in 1804, leading France through a series of military campaigns known as the Napoleonic Wars. His reign lasted until his first abdication in 1814, briefly followed by the Bourbon Restoration before he returned to power for the Hundred Days in 1815, ending with his defeat at Waterloo.
Peter the Great and Napoleon Bonaparte were both transformative leaders who sought to modernize their respective countries, Russia and France. Both implemented significant reforms to strengthen their states and military capabilities, focusing on Westernization and centralization of power. However, they differed in their approaches; Peter was more focused on state-building and infrastructure improvements, while Napoleon emphasized military expansion and the establishment of a legal code. Additionally, Peter ruled in the 17th and 18th centuries, whereas Napoleon rose to power in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, reflecting different historical contexts and challenges.
Napoleon was a Corsican who got a scholarship to military school in France. He then graduated at 16 and became an officer in the military. He rose up the ranks meteorically during the French Revolution. The Directory asked him to command troops to put down monarchist rebels in the streets of Paris, and after his success, they made him commander of the French army in Italy. He had great success despite a small and dysfunctional army. When he returned to France he was asked by abbé Sieyes and other Legislative members to disband the Directory by force, and did so. He was named first consul of the new Republic, and after more wars in 1801 thus giving him full power over France, he crowns himself emperor in 1804.

The Napoleonic Wars (1803-15) were a series of wars declared against Napoleon's French Empire by opposing coalitions.
