Why are Native American groups so different?

The many Native American groups had many different customs, lifestyles, and beliefs, but the one thing that they did have most in common is the ability to live in harmony with nature. Most Native American groups learned from nature and used natural means to live. Sustaining what nature could offer them was an important factor in everything that the did.

Native People consisted of over 500 nations with more than 300 languages. Some lived in the mountains, some in deserts, some in the plains, and some near oceans, streams or lakes. Their customs were related to their environment.

Native Americans had adapted to their environment by doing anything they could to survive. For instance, some Native American groups that would have lived in the desert away from water sources to water their crops would dig a well and build an irrigation system to allow water from their well to flow to all of their crops. Or if a group lived in the mountains they would flatten out land and build a plateau in order to farm. Much like people in China would do at the same time and earlier for rice fields.

Native Americans each lived in separate tribes all over america. They each had a different culture, for example religion, naming, traditions, etc. Some tribes had the same religion and names but not always.
