You need to be specific as to the particular desert. Midday temperatures can range from over 100 degrees F. below zero in Antarctica to nearly 150 degrees F. above zero in the Mojave.
The shortest shadow on a sundial would be afternoon or Middaay
The shadow of the tree would be shortest at midday when the sun is directly overhead. This is because the angle of the sunlight is most perpendicular to the tree, resulting in a shorter shadow. At sunrise and sunset, the angle of the sunlight is lower, creating longer shadows.
Shadows caused by the sun are shortest at midday and longest just after sunrise and just before sunset.

i think sunset, midday, sunrise or midnight i dont know but these are the answers i can give and atleast i told u somethink lol At midday, when the sun is directly overhead.
NOON When the sun is at it's highest point in the sky
your shadow is the shortest when the sun is right above you!
At midday your shadow will be at its shortest as the sun is closer to being overhead and you block less of its light. As the afternoon progresses and it gets further past midday the sun sinks lower in the sky and your shadow gets longer.
Shadows are shortest at 12noon.... Just found out frm my sis....
Midday is twelve of clock noon. What comes after midday is after-midday, or the afternoon. The abbreviation p.m. means post meridiem, or post midday.
Midday is 12 noon or 12 midday. It is not 12 p.m. as p.m. means 'after midday'; nor is it 12 a.m. as a.m. means 'before midday. Logically, midday cannot be before or after midday. Similarly, midnight is 12 midnight.
