Two reasons:

  1. Mostly a stranded wire is far more flexible than a solid one and less likely to break after repeated flexing.
  2. At AC frequencies in the RF range an effect called the "skin effect" starts to become significant, current flow restricts itself to the skin of the conductor and the wire resistance rises. Stranded wire offers more skin and thus reduces the wire resistance again.

Why are switches and electric sockets are made by using conductors?

They are made using both conductors and insulators: conductors where you do want the electricity to be able to flow and insulators where you want to prevent the electricity from flowing. If they were made using just one or the other, they could not perform their intended functions.

Did Brian designed an arrow that would fly correctly by making it shorter Hatchet?

Yes, Brian designed a smaller arrow by shortening the shaft and using bird feathers for fletching to ensure it would fly correctly in "Hatchet."

DNA fingerprinting involves cutting DNA strands using which what?

Restriction enzymes

What are the uses of conductors?

Super conductors would have zero resistivity. Hence no loss due to joule's heating. So power transmission could be done with larger efficiency. Strong electric current could be passed without hesitation due to zero resistance. Hence intense magnetic field could be produced. With this levitation of trains above the rails and hence fast movement of trains. With magnetic propulsion technique satellites could be launched without using rockets. In computers for storing a vast memorable information super conductors could be used. Even generators of several mega watts but of smaller size could be designed.

What is material constant for a semi conductors?

depends on what material you are using for a semi-conductor

What is the likely effect of reducing the number of strands in a conductor if it is difficult to insert into a terminal?

If you're talking about removing actual strands, you'll lose current carrying capacity and could potentially fry the connection. If you're talking about reducing the number of strands and using larger strands, you won't help your situation or could make it worse.

Explain how spiders can use vibrations to help them capture their prey?

Prey caught in the spiders web struggles. This causes vibrations in the web strands. The spider sits at the center of the web strands and using its legs, detects which strands are being moved. It then proceeds down those strands to the location of the ensnared insect and bites and secures it for eating.

What AWG wires have the highest current carrying capacity?

The larger the number of the wire, the smaller the amperage that it can carry using the AWG wire identification system. In the electrical trade the smallest building conductor that can be used is a #14 copper conductor with an insulation rating of 90 degrees C and is rated at 15 amps. The largest building conductors that can be used is a 200 MCM copper conductor with an insulation rating of 90 degrees C and is rated at 750 amps. The above ratings are for allowable ampacities for not more than three copper conductors in raceway. For amperages higher than 750 amps the conductors then become paralleled, tripled and quadrupled. There are other ratings for conductors such as free air rating (question for another day) but these are the ones used by electricians on a daily basis
