The Titanic was going at 21 knots at the time and it was extremely cold out, calm seas though. As it got closer to the iceberg they pulled it full reverse (23 Knots back, really it just made the Titanic go faster). After that it smashed into the iceberg and the boiler rooms flooded.

How it could have been avoided:

  1. Titanic is warned by nearby ships like the Californian
  2. Titanic slows to half speed
  3. Captain closes watertight doors when iceberg spotted
  4. Crew turns the ship directly into the iceberg
  5. Carpathia is morsed for CQD and SOS
  6. Lifeboats are launched

OR:

The ship could have also made it's way out of it, half speed with 2 compartments flooded and limping it's way to New York.

Titanic did not turn from the iceberg quickly enough because she didn't have time. The interval between spotting the iceberg (more accurately a black mass blocking stars) and the collision is thought to be less than forty seconds.

Why could the Titanic not turn quickly enough?

Conspiracy theories aside, to the best of our knowledge the iceberg was not seen early enough to allow the crew to do so.

How long would it take for the titanic to turn?

it took the titanic 24 hours to turn 90 degrees This is preposterous, it took 37 seconds to turn 2 points and according to the British Inquiry into the loss of the Titanic she could turn 360 degrees in 412 seconds or almost 7 minutes.

How a ship turns?

I assume the question is about the Titanic? Once the alarm was called it was already too late. The closeness of the iceberg, the total mass and high speed of the Titanic, meant that it would take a long time to carry out any avoidance manoeuvres.

What happened to The Titanic and why?

the titanic was going to america new york then one cold night a big iceberg was ahead of the titanic . the people that worked on ship told the capitain iceberg ahead so the captain was trying to turn the ship as fast as he can but it was too late they hit the iceberg and bagan to sink . the latest they could stay on the ship was 1 hour but it could stand for 2 hours as well . they also didnt have enough life boats so some people die from the cold frezing water

Why did the titanic not turn quickly enough to avoid the titanic?

There wasn't much time to react once the iceberg had been spotted, and the ship's rudder was too small to effectively maneuver away.

Why did the Titanic sink and it was made not too?

The titanic was hit by an iceberg. The boat was so large that it didn't have enough time to turn around and avoid it. It was a flaw that the creaters overlooked and was not meant to happen.

How serious was the damage caused to the Titanic?

Very it was below the waterline and almost 200 ft long the problem was it penetrated too many watertight compartments for it to stay afloat by not being able to turn fast enough. If they had turned sooner, had more speed to turn faster or hit iceberg head on experts say it probably would not have sunk.
