No. In the Transformers cartoon series the characters name was "Spike" Witwicky. It was more of a nickname for the character rather than a real name, but his real name was not revealed in the cartoons. The character for the movie was originally going to be called Spike as well, but since the character was not a mechanic like he was in the cartoon, and just a regular teenager, the name was changed to Sam instead.
