When Johnny and Pony went back to the park, the Mustang full of Soc's showed up. The Soc's got out and started beating up Pony and Johnny for picking up their girls (Cherry and Marcia) earlier at the Drive-in. The Soc's begin to drown Pony in the fountain so Johnny tries to save him by stabbing the Soc, Bob, with his switchblade. He kills Bob and scares off the other Soc's. This then freaks out Ponyboy and the boys run off to find Dally for advice on what to do next...

Cherry and Marcia are two Soc girls in "The Outsiders" who befriend Ponyboy and Johnny at the drive-in movie theater. Cherry, a cheerleader, develops a bond with Ponyboy, while Marcia is friends with Two-Bit. They help to show that not all Socs are cruel and help to bridge the gap between the Greasers and Socs.
