When Stan Laurel first began making movies, most films were shot in orthochromatic film stock, which didn't register the color blue, the color of Laurel's eyes. Cameraman George Stevens got a hold of a supply of panchromatic film, which was sensitive to more colors, including blue. Stevens, who worked for producer Hal Roach, became Laurel and Hardy's cameraman of choice.

He got killed as a killer in "Baby Face Nelson" (1957) and "The Last Mile" (1959) and during at least four war movies, The Bridges at Toko-Ri (1954), The Bold and the Brave (1956), The Secret Invasion (1964) and Ambush Bay (1966). He is killed off as the retired actor in "Pulp" (1972), as Gene Hackman's cellmate in "The Domino Principle" (1978), and as toymaker Joe Petto in "Silent Night, Deadly Night 5."
