It is said that Paris of Troy "stole" Helen of Sparta. Paris fell in love with Helen and sneaked her on a Trojan ship. He also said that the goddess Aphrodite promised Helen to him. They wanted to bring Helen back to Greece.
Other reasons are that they wanted to sack Troy for its good location and for spoils of war, and to regain the pride of Menelaus, after Paris dishonored him by taking Helen even though he was a guest in the household.

∙ 11y agoLegend has it that Menelaos king of Sparta wanted to recover his wife Helen and the property she took with her when she ran off to Troy with prince Paris of Troy.
Menelaos appealed to his brother king Agamemnon of Argos who held out the pillage of the Asian coast as an incentive to get the other Greek kings to join in a major expedition which included Troy. They had an initial go at the richest city Troy, failed, then set about the serious business of looting the whole coastline of Asia Minor and the islands, and when this was done came back to Troy again, and were successful.

∙ 14y agoThe legend claims it's Helen's fault for having an affair with Paris and running away, but it was political. Troy was a major center for trade and becoming to powerful for Greece's tastes, so they united and decided to go to war.

∙ 8y agoBecause the Troyans had captured (or kidnapped) Hellen. The Greeks took it as an offence and went to war against the Troyans after nine years of trying to get Hellen (or at least that's what I've known so far...the facts may be wrong after all and be more in the line of myths).
Greece went to war with Troy after Paris took Helen the wife of the King.
