**2nd, 4th AND 6th BOOK/MOVIE SPOILERS POSSIBLY MORE. If you haven't read the books/watched the movies up to the 6th one, DO NOT READ!** It was actally Ginny Weasley's bag, and he slipped in Tom Riddle's Diary. He slipped it in because before Voldemort had died he had left the diary in Lucius Malfoy (Draco's father's,) hands. Lucius was meant to put the diary in Hogwarts when Voldemort told him to. This was to open the Chamber of Secrets again. The Chamber could only be re-opened when the heir of Slytheryn returned to the school. Voldemort, as you know, was an heir. Voldemort had left pieces of his soul (horcruxes) in various items of importance. His soul was divided into 7 parts. The diary was one of these items, therefore, when the diary was brought back to Hogwarts, so was Voldemort, and the Chamber re-opened. Lucius was in a lot of trouble when Voldemort came back because Voldemort did not want the diary returned until he had told him to, and Lucius had just dumped the special item off without Vldemort having any knowlege of it. I know, way more information than you probably needed, but I just love this series, writing about it got me excited. Anyway, hope this helps =]
