because their land was over populated and was running out of food.

Actually this answer is only part of the reason. Back in the 70's and early 80's New Zealand's economy was thriving and there were lots of job openings but not enough workers. So the government went to the islands and told the Polynesians that there was work for them in NZ, the government allowed them to live in house's the government owned and they were able to send money back to there families. Once the economy had died down the government then went around and 'threw out' the 'over-stayers' the people they had brought over to help with the economy. I could go further by I think that's enough for now.

it was actually because their country was getting invaded and they found this was the best country

It was also because a lot of the Chinese miners were invited to Otago because New Zealand wanted the hard-working, honest and patient Chinese men to mine for them. The Chinese saw New Zealand as a place that would make them rich, and also held the promise of work, education and a fresh start, especially since they had just come from a country full of poverty.

New Zealand did not migrate to Australia. It stayed exactly where it is, 2000 km to the southeast.

Australia receives large numbers of immigrants from New Zealand for a number of reasons. The two countries are similar in terms of education, health, political stability and so on, but many New Zealanders come to Australia as there are better employment opportunities, and the fact that the Australian economy and currency are stronger - therefore, they can achieve better financial security. Many have also cited their reasons for Immigration as better weather and climate in Australia.

Some Chinese migrated to New Zealand while there was a gold rush in New Zealand in the 1860's. They came to earn money to send back to struggling family members back in China. Many remained in New Zealand and built a life here, got married and had children.

In the 1990's onwards there has been an increase of immigrates in New Zealand that are from China. Many came for studying English and other subjects (due to it being hard to get into good universities in their home country). Many stayed on afterwards after completing their studies.

Many business men with young families immigrated to New Zealand from China due to New Zealand being an open new market for them to expand their businesses.

With China having a one child only policy, many families viewed living and staying in New Zealand as a great option so that they could have more then one child. Also with more space in the average New Zealand home, and the great New Zealand outdoors offered them a great lifestyle to enjoy.

What is different about Australia and New Zealand?

i lived in new zealand for 12 years and then moved to Australia. the Australian dollar is worth more than the new zealand dollar. new zealand has much more hills/ mountains because it is on a faultline (earthquakes) and Australia is not. Julia gillard is Australia's first female prime minister. new zealand had a female prime minister, Helen clark, years ago. New zealand is about the length of the Northern Territory in Australia. Australia is enormous compared to new zealand new zealand only have regions, not states, as Australia do in new zealand they call FLIP FLOPS or THONGS jandles. there are alot of slang differences in Australia and new zealand in new zealand they say burger king. in Australia it is hungry jacks.
