the volturi did not know anything about this. only Jane, her brother, Felix and demetri did. since they all hated Bella, they wanted her dead. watch the movie for more info.

They seek out powerful vampires, such as Edward Cullen with his mind reading, Alice Cullen with her clairvoyance, and Bella Cullen with a powerful mind shield. If they encounter resistance, they use the powers of the vampires they control to get their way, killing all that oppose them. They expect nothing less than complete control. Their leader, Aro, is an arrogant megalomaniac who seeks absolute control over the vampire world. He views many things and people in the world as of certain worth, given their abilities or rare qualities, and collects them to add to his collection. One of his more malevolent actions was the killing of his sister Didyme, who loved one of Aro's partners, Marcus. He had her killed to ensure Marcus did not leave the Volturi with her, as he saw his abilities as of a greater value than Didyme's abilities and the love she and Marcus' had.

It isn't necessary since Bree was only briefly mentioned in eclipse, the only things you should know is that she was the only newborn vampire to surrender to the cullens after being changed by Victoria to take part in her plan to keep them busy while she got her revenge against Bella. She was killed shortly afterwards by the Volturi because keeping her alive or not wasn't their decision to make. There is nothing else about her in the entire twilight saga.
