There were no child labor laws, factories needed as many workers as they could get, families needed as much money as they could get, and children had smaller fingers and hands, making them ideal for some more precise jobs.
They were very cheap labor, and small enough and having small enough hands to reach into machinery and fit into places to fix things or get something unstuck; many lost limbs doing this like this. (They worked mostly in factories with large machines.) Also, there were no child labor laws in action at this time, so it was legal to employ a kid.
Kids are small and can fit underneath machines, they also dont require as much pay as a fully grown adult man would have to be paid. Children during this time were paid little to nothing, which benefitted factory owners.
They needed to be bows so they worked for their families

problems one problem children have today is they have to do work and some parents use there children as slaves!! advanteages one advanteage that children have today is they have a law that protects them from being worked to hard and most children work for at least 5 or so hours but the children in 1800s worked almost up to 19 hors and up to 6yrs old worked in factories.
The ages of children or women working in factories now corresponded to the time they could work in a day and/or week.
