Your answer, to show it to Saul, would be incorrect. At that time Saul was with the army where the battle took place, at the Valley of Elah. He would have seen David slaying Goliath. [1 Samuel 17]

Jerusalem at the time was still a Jebusite city, not a city of Israel. Jerusalem was not taken until after Saul had died and after David had been made King of Israel [in 2 Samuel 2]. [Jerusalem was not captured until 2 Samuel 5.]

The head of Goliath may have been taken to Jerusalem as a warning to the Jebusites who remained there, that Israel, as the people of Yahweh were not to be ignored.

1 Samuel 17:54 is not a mistranslation. Taking the head to Jerusalem had nothing to do with Cain or with a false priesthood.

Gen 3:14-15

14 And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

As the battle lines of the Philistines and Saul's army faced each other across the valley, the gigantic warrior Goliath emerged from the Philistine camp and loudly challenged Israel to supply a man to fight him in single combat, the outcome to determine which army should become the servant of the other. Morning and evening, for 40 days, the army of Israel, in great fear, was subjected to these taunts. No Israelite soldier had the courage to accept the challenge. (1Samuel 17:1-11, 16) The young shepherd David, with God's spirit upon him, met Goliath's challenge.
