The complete answer is found in 1 Samuel 17. Here one can read that the Philistines were encroaching upon Judean lands (verse 3). These Philistines put forth a 'champion' (a Hebrew expression for 'a go-between' or warrior who will fight a single combat as a stand-in for the entire armies). Now begins the great story of faith of David who had just defeated a lion and bear a short time before this and this probably gave him faith to trust God for victory over Goliath (Philistine champion).

We read in verse 45-47, that David would go before Goliath in the NAME OF THE LORD OF HOST, the God of the armies of Israel. Host here refers to God as Commander over the armies of heaven and Israel via the covenatal relationship with the Israelites. David was depending upon the power of God as the Warrior and Defender of His people as Exodus 15:3 states.

Now David as Israel's champion appeared as a shepherd boy chasing a dog or wolf away from his flock vis-a-vis Goliath who stood nearly 10 foot tall in full battle gear. Yet, in verse 48 we read how David hurried and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine. He took out a stone and slung it, striking Goliath in the forehead, killing him. Then David, not having a sword, took Goliath's sword and cut off his head. When the Philistines saw this improbable if not impossible outcome for their champion by the champion of Israel, they fled.

David used the BIGGEST name in the Universe; 4 times in a row (like a gun firing off: bang, bang, bang, bang).

David spoke it Hebrew of course; -- so he pronounced the name in Hebrew;

David said to Goliath:

1 Samuel 17:45-47 "45You are coming to me with a sword and with a spear and with a javelin, but I am coming to you with the name of JEHOVAH of armies, the God of the battle lines of Israel, whom you have taunted. 46 This day JEHOVAH will surrender you into my hand, . . . 47 And all this congregation will know that neither with sword nor with spear does JEHOVAH save, because to JEHOVAH belongs the battle, . . . ."

What did it prove when David killed Goliath with a stone instead of a sword?

The point of that story is that a little man can take down the largest of people if he uses his brain. And that is what David did. He thought and decided that the stones would take Goliath down.

Why did neither army IN the bible story of David and Goliath attack each other?

In the story of Goliath and the Hebrew army, each day goliath would challenge the Hebrews to send their champion to fight him. And as he was so huge and strong they were scared to fight him.

When did David kill Goliath?

King David has been well established in history trough archaeological finds. He slayed Goliath about 10 years before becoming king. The date would probably be around 500 years before Jesus. David first became king of Judah in 1010 BCE, when he was 30. This would mean that David slayed Goliath around 1023-1018 BCE, when he was somewhere around 17 to 22 years old.

Whose armor did David attempt to wear when he was going to fight Goliath?

Millions of young children have been taught the famous story of David slaying the Philistine giant, Goliath, to guide them to understand the greatness of David and, perhaps, his God. David had already had intimate acquaintance with Saul, when he became the king's armour bearer and then his personal musician. A little later, David told Saul that he would fight Goliath, so Saul offered him his own personal armour, but did not appear to recognise David. Finally, after David had slain Goliath, Saul had the young warrior brought to him, but once again did not recognise David. The likely explanation for this is that the account blends together several different legends, without attempting to harmonise them. Perhaps this is why the Book of Chronicles omits David's defeat of Goliath, even though the Deuteronomic History saw this as the most important reason David was accepted as king. If there is underlying truth in the story as it comes down to us, then David attempted to wear Saul's armour. Chronicles' rejection of this story would mean that David did not attempt to wear any armour, because he did not fight Goliath.

Who would win if Batman and Shredder fought Goliath?

Goliath is stronger than Batman. If Batman and Shredder were on a team, both of them win. But Shredder by himself, I don't think so. Goliath is invincible for Batman. If David fought him, no. Goliath could win Batman too. If you were Goliath fighting Batman, yes! But Shredder and Batman. he's not invincible on for 2 or more people.

Are david and goliath british?

Who would win if Clayface and Goliath were fighting?

Clayface would win. There's only 1 way Goliath could win. He can cut Clayface's neck off of him. Clayface can transform into anything he wants but Goliath is quick. When I said that Clayface will win, I meant if Goliath never fought him. Clayface could slam Goliath down to the floor. Since Clayface can transform, Clayface will win it. Goliath could only cut Clayface apart. Clayface could barf on Goliath. Clayface could crush Goliath. Even though Goliath still fights, Clayface wins. If Goliath won, it would be an EMBARASSING memory. End of story and fight.

What did David do in story David and golath in Samuel?

In the story of David and Goliath David was a young shepperd boy. He had brothers fighting in Saul's army at the time and was sent by his father to bring his brothers food. When he arrived he saw that Goliath was blaspheming God. He became upset and went into the king's tent and told the King he would fight Goliath. The king told him no at first but he was determined to fight for his God and eventually persuaded the king to allow him to fight Goliath.
