Gally suspected something was off about Thomas because he arrived in the Glade with no memories, which was unusual compared to previous Gladers. Additionally, Thomas exhibited behaviors that challenged the established order, such as his determination to explore the Maze despite the dangers. Gally, who valued the status quo and safety, viewed Thomas's actions as a potential threat to their survival and the stability of their community.
In Chapter 5 of "The Maze Runner," Chuck plays a trick on Gally by pretending to befriend him and then suddenly turning on him. He taunts Gally, calling him names and implying that he is afraid of the Maze. This act serves to provoke Gally and highlight the tension between the characters, showcasing Chuck's mischievous nature and his desire to stand up to Gally's bullying.

SUMMARY- When Thomas arrives in the box, his only memory is his first name. He can remember basic things, but not anything about his past. He arrives to the Glade, which is to be his new home. There are lots of other boys there who call themselves the Gladers, and have the same wiped memory as Thomas. The Glade is a large area of land surrounded by four walls with four doors that open each day and close each night. Outside of the massive stone walls exists a large maze which the boys have been trying to solve for two years, with no success. Each night, the walls of the maze positions, creating a great challenge. Making an even greater challenge, getting stuck in the maze when the doors close is unthinkable - at night, dangerous creatures called Grievers roam around. If a Griever stings a boy, there is a chance of death, unless he receives a special medicine called Serum. Upon taking the Serum, he will undergo the 'Changing', which is a painful process that results in the return of some memories. Every month, the Gladers receive one new boy, and Thomas was part of this pattern. However, the pattern was broken when a girl, Theresa, arrived the day after Thomas. She carried with her a note saying that she was the last one to arrive at the Glade, and that everything was going to change. Soon, Theresa and Tom discover that they can speak telepathically. Many other weird things have started to occur as well, and as they seemed to have arrived with Thomas, he becomes the one the boys blame. Each Glader has a job to do around the glade. One of the most important groups is the runners. These boys run in the maze every day, looking for and remembering the changes that have occurred. Then, when the return to the Glade, they draw a map of the day's maze, in hopes to find a pattern or clue. Thomas becomes a runner, and one day he helps to discover a mysterious area off the cliff that the Grievers disappear into and come out of. They name this the 'Griever Hole', and are very curious about it. With so many strange things going on, Thomas decides he needs some answers. To do this, he requirements his memories, so he decides to purposefully get stung by a Griever. After going through the Changing, Thomas realizes why they are there, and that they must escape. He finally understands how to solve the maze. He looks carefully at the maps of the maze, and traces them onto wax paper. When they stack up the maps of all the sections from each day, they see a letter. They soon realize that the maze has been spelling out a code that repeats over and over. Thomas then tells the Gladers his plan of escape: he thinks that they need to jump through the Griever hole in order to get out of the maze. Most boys go along with his plan, but some decide to stay behind. Those who want to escape enter the maze and head towards the cliff. Many Grievers are waiting for them, and an epic battle occurs. Thomas, Theresa and Chuck (Thomas' friend) manage to jump into the hole. Theresa goes straight to the computer and enters in the code, but the last word, PUSH, will not register. Chuck, however, saves the day by a spotting a big red button that Theresa pushes, and the Grievers are shut down. The remaining living Gladers enter the hole, and they go through a door that leads them to meet the creators of the maze. Chuck is murdered by Gally, a former Glader who had mysteriously disappeared. During the chaos, a large group of people arrives who claim they are there to rescue the Gladers. The boys follow them, and learn that the world is in a catastrophe, destroyed by sun flares, and most of the population is infected with a disease called the Flare and have gone crazy. WICKED is a group that made the maze for the purpose of saving human kind, but the group that rescued the boys disagree with WICKED's motives. The Gladers are given shelter and food, and finally feel peaceful. However when they wake up, the craziness will begin again. In the epilogue, the head of WICKED writes a letter describing how well Group A's Maze Trials have gone, and that they will be given one night of rest before the next challenge begins.
