He didn't think it was fair that Ponyboy's brothers had to worry about Pony all the time. Also, he thinks he could get off easier when Dally tells him that Cherry would testify that the socs were drunk and Johnny stabbed Bob in self-defense.
I partially agree with Johnny. I agree with Johnny that it would be best to turn himself in because he doesn't want to live his life running away and that he doesn't think Darry and Soda should have to worry about Ponyboy, when Ponyboy shouldn't be involved.
But also, Johnny comments that it was self-defense and that was a good point to use for his defense. Although it is, Dally mentions the court would be much harder on greasers than anyone else. There's a good chance the court may not even take this into consideration because Johnny's a greaser. In reality, Johnny may get a hard sentence, leading into what Dally says about not wanting him to get hardened in jail.

There other choice would have been to turn themselves in and johnny would have gone to jail for manslaughter and ponyboy in a boys home.
That they are going to turn themselves in for what they did.
Johnny decided to turn himself in primarily because he was tired of running and hiding from the police. The Outsiders is a novel written by S. E. Hinton.
They turn to Dally Winston. Because they think that he would no what to do. Also he tells Johnny " Good for you"

because he doesnt want to be hiding his whole life
If they kept running away they would just get in more trouble than if they just turned them selves in. More specifically they did so in order to claim self-defense in Johnny's killing of a Socials gang member named Bob Sheldon. Johnny knew that if he stayed on the run, the other Greasers would still be scrutinized by the police, and Ponyboy wouldn't have a chance to succeed in life. Johnny was willing to face the consequences in order to continue protecting his friends.
my advise for ponyboy and johnny would be to turn themselves in from the beginning. They were only defending themselves so i dont think anything would happen.
He wants to turn himself in because it isn't fair for Sodapop and Darry to be worrying about Ponyboy and Cherry Valence said that she would testify against the socs and say that they were drunk and Johnny and Ponyboy acted in self defence

not until they either emancipate themselves or until they turn 18

The boys decided to turn the figurines back to plastic because they realized the negative consequences of bringing the toys to life, including the danger it posed to both the toys and themselves. They also understood that the toys had their own lives and desires that should be respected.

If you believe that you are a danger to yourself, to others or to society in general.
