∙ 10y agoThe buildings in Haiti were not as well built. The buildings in San Francisco must be built to codes that were written with earthquakes in mind. Such codes do no exist in Haiti. Additionally, Haiti is a very poor country, so it is not uncommon to use cheap building techniques at the cost of having unsteady buildings.
