He was commander of the mission and took the first step on the moon. His footprint is still there.

Neil Armstrong was part of the Apollo 8 Mission into space. This mission sent 2 people on the moon; Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldren. Neil Amrstrong was the first American on the moon. In fact, he was also the first man on the moon.
Michael Collins was the third member of Apollo 11 with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Collins was unable to go to the moon in the Apollo 11 mission because the lander could only fit two people, and the command module was not able to run on auto-pilot for the mission-critical activities such as rendezvous and docking of the LM. Instead he was in the Columbia, orbiting the moon.
Neil Armstrong, Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Only Armstrong and Aldrin descended to the lunar surface. waszzup yao
Buzz Aldrin landed on the moon with Armstrong while Michael Collins orbited 60 miles overhead. It was the last spaceflight for all 3 crewmembers. Armstrong and Aldrin retired shortly after the mission. Collins was offered command of the Apollo 17 mission, but he chose to retire instead of risking his life on another spaceflight.
Apollo 11 was the mission with these three people in July 1969.
The first person to walk the moon was Neil Armstrong in 1969 mission Apollo 11.
the lunar lander only held two people there was no third person in the lunar lander, Mike Collins orbited the moon while neil Armstrong and buzz Aldrin landed on the moon.

there were three astronauts on the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were in the lander and stayed on the Lunar surface while Michael Collins orbited around the moon.
The Apollo 11 mission was significant to the US because this was the first manned mission landing on the moon. The mission commander was Neil Armstrong, usually people know that name as one of the first people to walk on the moon... so hopefully that helps. It also sybolized being superior to Russia since the US won the 'Space Race' by landing on the moon first.

It is unknown, but there are certain people who believe the entire Appolo program in the sixties and seventies was "faked". They are usually the same people who believe that professional wrestling is "real".

Viola Armstrong did not have a job, and many people called her "hobo".
