Many Jeopardy contestants leave with the second and third place prizes and still have to pay for all there costs to be on the program beginning with the audition including transportation and lodging if they were required.

The nighttime syndicated version of Wheel of Fortune is not a network show and the stations decide which syndicated program they will carry. On WDIV in Detroit Wheel of Fortune is carried on a NBC station and the network and other areas can have a different network carry the show. So it is your area and stations that the change is unique to.
