Like many performers, Ferrell did not want to become stagnant. In other words, he decided he had been on this one show long enough, and he wanted to expand his career into other areas of comedy, especially becoming a movie star. Ferrell had a very successful run with Saturday Night Live, and he left the show on good terms with everyone. In addition to starring in "Anchorman," "Elf," and other comedy films, he has returned as an SNL guest host several times.
