In "Holes" by Louis Sachar, Zero runs away from Camp Green Lake primarily because he feels isolated and mistreated by the other campers, particularly by the camp's harsh conditions and the bullying he endures. He also seeks to escape the oppressive environment and find a sense of freedom. Additionally, his decision to leave is influenced by a desire to prove himself and find his own identity, which he believes he cannot do while at camp.
They don't need fences because it's the only place with water for 100 miles (supposedly), so if the boys ran away, even if they did have their canteen, it wouldn't be long before they died of dehydration. The holes have to be 5 foot all around, and 5 foot deep.
Because if you run away you wont find no food or water for miles.

The Rising Action in Holes is that when Stanley's friendship with Zero alienates the other boys at the camp and the fact that Zero digs part of Stanley's hole makes the other boys jealous. This leads to mounting tension between the boys, which eventually erupts in a fight. The results of the fight lead Zero to run away from camp, eventually causing Stanley to follow him. Once the two have run away there is no going back and they must make concrete decisions about their future plans.
