Actually, they did. Every ship has to pass its sea trials before its maiden voyage. The ship was deemed unsinkable because it was built and designed to stay afloat with 4 watertight compartments breached, but the Titanic sank because one compartment too many was breached.

the white star line put about 14 lifeboats on titanic, the law back then was 12, so they thought they were safe with only 2 over the law. but on titanic, 2 more life boats didnt help. hope it helps
