Trying to look into the reasoning why you might have asked the question... you might have been thinking that summer should be equally spaced on both sides of the northernmost point reached by the sun, instead of all occurring after the sun has reached its northernmost point.

However, that point occurs in late June, and if you'll think about it a bit, you'll probably realize that the hottest days you can remember happened in late July or August rather than in early June or late May. It takes the Earth a while to warm up (or cool down), so the temperature lags a bit behind the position of the sun. This is why we start the count on the solstice, rather than spacing it to either side of the solstice.
