Why do people want to do child labor?

People seem to think that because there are younger people in this world who should be playing with friends and things, they think that playing with their friends is unproductive. Therefore, they feel that they should do something "useful" in kid's lives by making them go to work.

It brings about babies, and it will probably make you stronger.
One cannot look at child labour through the prisim of Western Culture. An expanded worldview is needed to understand that child labour is sometimes the lesser of many evils. When a child grows up in in Kuala Lampur she has some hard choices: earn money and live, dont earn money and die. The average income there is about $5 a day. When she works in a factory, she is earning money to feed up to 10 other people. She may sacrifice some things we cherish, but she survives. She lives.

If she chooses not to work in the factory, what other choices are there? School? Not for her. School is for boys. She will get married off as soon as possible (usually around age 14) so the family has one less mouth to feed.

She can sell / make drugs. There are many criminals who would jump at the chance to use children to manufacture and sell heroine and other drugs. Eventually they become addicted to the stuff and end up junkies begging on the street. And then she will most likely be raped.

She can choose to be a prostitute. As a child and a virgin she will command a high price, at first. As she gets older and worn out, she will take what she is given, earning less and less, until sickness and disease take her life.

So, given the extreme hardship and poverty some people in the world must endure, is it so wrong for a child to work in a factory if it means food and clothing and a place to call home? There is no miracle remedy for people in these situations. It just takes time and effort to work themselves up and out of poverty and into prosperity.

And some families needed the extra money and the kids had to work just to stay alive.
