because all the different types and weights of the sediments means that some fall through the water faster than others so when they compress into rock the heaviest sediments will be at the bottom etc.

What are rocks that form when layers of rock particles are squeezed or stuck together?

Sedimentary rocks form when layers of rock particles are compacted or cemented together over time. Examples of sedimentary rocks include sandstone, shale, and limestone.

Where can strata can be found sedimentary rock or igneous rock?

Strata can be found in sedimentary rocks, which form in layers over time as sediments accumulate and compact. Igneous rocks, which form from molten magma cooling and solidifying, do not typically have distinct layers or strata.

How do small particles form sedimentary rocks?

Sedimentary rocks are formed by the layering of materials, as new layers are added, they compress the lower layers which eventually physically adhere together.

Rocks produced pieces of other rocks plant and animal matter or dissolved minerals collect to form rock layers are called?

Sedimentary rocks are formed when pieces of other rocks, plant and animal matter, or dissolved minerals collect and are compressed together to form rock layers. Over time, these layers become cemented together to create solid sedimentary rocks.

How do metamorphic rocks form from metamorphic rocks?

Sedimentary rocks form from layers of sand, silt or clay, sometimes mixed with pebbles, and the bodies of living things (that may the be fossilised) The rocks are often quite soft. Metamorphic rocks form when rocks (usually sedimentary rocks) are subjected to extreme heat and/or pressure, usually deep underground. The rocks are changed in form, often becoming harder. Fossils are usually destroyed by the process.

Rocks changed in form from sedimentary or igneous rocks?

Are meatmorphic rocks and also perhaps soil.

These rocks form from layers of materials that settle and are cemented together by pressure.?

Sedimentary

Why can only sedimentary rocks contain in tact fossils?

Sedimentary rocks form three horizontal layers: strata, singular and stratum. The organisms that fall into the sedimentary rocks, will then be fossilized in each layer.

What are the layers found in sedimentary rocks called?

The layers found in sedimentary rocks are called strata. These are horizontal layers of sediment that have been deposited over time and then compacted and cemented together to form rock. Each layer represents a different time period in Earth's history.
