well they are different gangs separated by their social status. they pretty much hated each other. they wanted to show each other who was stronger to they set up a fight and whoever won would be the winner
When the Socs and Greasers fight at the vacant lot, the stakes are not only about physical dominance but also about social identity and class conflict. For the Greasers, it's a fight for respect and survival against the wealthier Socs, who often look down upon them. This confrontation symbolizes the larger struggle between the two groups, highlighting themes of loyalty, honor, and the impact of socioeconomic differences on personal relationships. Ultimately, the fight reflects the intense rivalry and the desperation each group feels to assert their place in a divided society.
at 7:00, in the vacant lot, after ponyboy and johnny last day in the church .
Fitting into Gang Life.
they have a rumble(fight) usually hoods and greasers on one side and the socs on the other side.
Gresers in general fight for different reasons. Soda fights for fun, Steve for hatred, Darry for pride, Two-Bit for conformity, and Ponyboy for self-defense. Johnny's reason was never specified in the book but I'm sure it's something like Pony's.

The Socs tend to hang out at drive-in movies or fancy parties, while the Greasers typically hang out at the vacant lot or the DX gas station. Both groups enjoy socializing, listening to music, and engaging in fights or rumbles to pass the time.

Ponyboy gets cut on the neck when he struggles to get away from the Socs.
the Socs
They are going to Two-bits house to get his car so they take can the girls home. But when the Socs drive by they are at the vacant lot.
They learned more about the Socs because they like jumping people. And beating people up when they are not with a whole lot of people. This is how pony got beat up
The Soc (social climbers, socialites) are the west side rich kids. For fun they like to jump Greasers and throw beer blasts. They are rich and stuck up. They come from a predominately white collar lifestyle, characterized by their often "preppy" dress style. Khaki pants, madras (collared and checkered shirt) etc.The Greasers are the east side, middle- and lower-class poor kids. They wore leather jackets and jeans. They slicked their hair back to make it greasy and darker (hence the name). They smoked kools and usually tried to stay out of fights. Most greasers have little or no respect for authority. When seen they were called "Dirty Troublemakers."
