Sheer ignorance. Mexico is grouped along other countries which have similar customs and historic background, like Guatemala, Colombia or Chile. This assignment happened during the 1950's, at a time when Mexico wasn't even considered as part of North America. In reality, it should be included within the Latin-American
group of nations (which coincidentally, are distributed among North, Central and South America as well as the Caribbean); these countries share traits like language, religion and several customs.
Mexico is part of North America.
Yes, Central America connects South America at Panama/Columbia and North America at Guatemala/Belize/Mexico
Mexico is in Latin America. Latin America is the Americas (including the Caribbean) with the exception of Canada, the US, Guyana, Suriname, and Guyane (French Guiana). Mexico happens to be in that part of Latin America that is also on the continent of North America.

What two COUNTRIES border North and South America. Technically, Mexico is in Central America, so the answer to the question is: Mexico borders North America, and Panama borders South America. Some consider Mexico to be a part of North America, which is technically incorrect, but in that case, then there are three countries that border North and South America: Panama borders South America, and Belize and Guatemala border North America (Mexico).
Mexico is NOT in South America. It is on North America, just south of the United States.
