Why does L from Death note sit that way?

Actually, he states that he has sat this way from when he was at a young age because his knowledge level raised in this position, because blood races faster through his body, and all the sugar he takes in is transported faster than normal to his brain, giving him his IQ. Also, L consumes a lot of sugary products because the body and brain run on sugar, and they help him to increase his IQ.

But I think the main reason these characteristics have developed in him is because he had a bit of a rough childhood - he was raised in an orphanage in England, without his parents, and he's not really the social type, so he must have struggled a bit, and therefore, this must have left some form of mental scarring on him that remained with him for the rest of his life.

L was about to test out the thirteen day rule, which means, when it was proven a fake, it would have made Light and Misa look only more suspicious, seeming that the 13 day rule was the only thing proving their innocence. When L was about to test it, Rem wrote L's and Watari's name down in her death note, to protect Misa from going to jail or being killed. Because Misa's life was made longer, Rem died. This was Light's plan, for Rem to be forced to kill L, and in doing so, Rem was out of the way also; Light obtained another notebook and he was able to use Misa as much as he wanted. hope that helped :)
