Some television shows are filmed live and take no more time to actually film outside of the total time of the live production. Other tv shows and episodes are sometimes filmed in front of a live television audience and are usually completed in one day.
For more complicated productions, tv episodes can take a long time to film, especially if the filming requires sequences to be filmed that are outisde of the production lot or 'on location'. Locations have to be found, permits have to be acquired and weather will sometimes have an effect on the times and dates of filming of these scenes.
Putting together a TV episode can take a lot of work and involves in most cases the work of a large staff of people, each capable of delaying the actual filming of a scene, but all working hard to create the final set of film that you view on your tv screen.
