Why does itachi want Sasukes eyes?

When Kakashi became a jounin Obito forgot to give kakashi a gift, and when Obito got half-crushed by a rock, he gave his uncrushed eye to Kakashi with Rin's help. She was the medical kunoichi on their team. She extracted it for Obito because he wanted to give it to Kakashi as a present before his death.

kakashi trying to protect obito got hit with a justu that damaged his left eye and when the enemy used a crushing boulder jutsu just before kakashi got hit with a boulder obito pushed him aside and got hit with the boulder and ordered rin to take his eye and replace it with kakashi's damaged eye

both of you are wrong itachi never wanted sasuke's eyes all he was going to do was pretend to do it so sasuke would fight him at his full potential itachi never really wanted to hurt him all the things he did was to protect sasuke

Obito was in a team with Kakashi and a med-nin called Rin. On a infiltration mission Rin was captured, and Obito went to rescue her. At this time, Obito was probably the wealest of all the shinobi in his generation, and he didn't have the sharingan. When kakashi's left eye had been slashed by a sword(the origin of his scar) by a nin who could turn invisible, just as he was about to stab Obito, his eyes activated because Obito was in a moment of extreme emotion, and he saw the chakra particles around the man, allowing him to kill him. They went in to the cave to rescue Rin, and were confronted by another nin. defeating him they freed Rin, only for the defeated nin to cause the cave to collapse. Kakashi fell trying to escape but Obito went back and threw him out of the way, causing Obito to be hit by a rock, which crushed his right side. As a gift for Kakashi for a Jounin present(Obito had forgot to buy him one when he was promoted to Jounin) Obito decided to give Kakashi his left eye. He asked Rin to carry out a transplant, which she did, giving Kakashi the full sharingan in one eye.

spoiler. the thing is that sasuke took itachi's eyes after he was dead becuase of his over use of sharingan. if you use sharingan too much you will go blind so he took his so he wont go blind.
