∙ 14y agoWhether one color of laser pointer is better than another depends mostly on what you want to do with it. Either color should be fine for the convention use of pointing for enphasis at slide images as part of a lecture or discussion. The more important thing is to be sure that it is powered at the level of a Class 2, Class 3A, or Class 3R laser (not more powerful than that), and that you know how to use it without putting oyurself or others at risk of injury. These things are NOT toys.

The laser diode in laser pointers can't change frequency, so the diode itself has to be switched. Other colors can be mixed together though, so yellow can be achieved by a red diode and a green diode in the same casing.
If you are wanting a green laser pointer then you are better off just buying a new one, as you would have to buy one anyway to get the parts.

Green ones are more complicated than standard red laser pointers because the laser diodes for green are not as commonly available. Therefore, green ones are more expensive than red ones.
