She's just trying to hold her ancient Nokia together with some good old-fashioned tape, probably because she spent all her money on designer shoes instead of a new phone. As per the commentary on the DVD, they wanted to make sure she was still using the same phone as the series, but wanted to make it 'realistic' that if it had been used for so long, it would probably be damaged or barely hanging on. Reportedly SJP slapped the grey gaffers tape on it. Enjoy! According the writer/producer on the DVD they wanted to keep a pink phone but make it look like it had been used a lot, hence the ducttape. Only problem is.. the one on the original series was a Motorola Razor with pink case (correct me if I am wrong) and this one in the movie is a much newer Sprint phone.
