Sesame Street has been losing money for a while now. In 2014, they spent $40 million in production costs, and lost $11 million.

HBO offered them a deal that will allow them to produce twice as many shows, and will allow them the use of HBOs streaming platforms.

One great thing about the deal is that nine months after an episode is aired on HBO, it will be released for showing on PBS. This will ensure that any child with access to public television will still get to watch the show.
