Why was Sideshow Bob in jail?
Originally it was because he committed an armed robbery on the Kwik-E-Mart, and tried to frame Krusty for it. Bob used to co-star on the Krusty the Klown show. He had Sideshow Mel's job (Sideshow Mel, in fact, was Sideshow Bob's replacement). Bob hated being the butt of all the jokes on the show, and he considered Krusty a talentless hack. Bob wanted Krusty off the show so he could star in it himself, so he disguised himself as Krusty and robbed the Kwik-E-Mart. Bart didn't believe Krusty committed the crime, and set out to prove it, and in doing so discovered it was Sideshow Bob who did it. Sideshow Bob went to prison and has held a murderous grudge against Bart ever since.

Yes. They are. Both master criminl minds, both sauve and crazy, and they really teamed up together as a evil team so they will have revenge of two yellow haired boys - SpongeBob and Bart.

Why does sideshow bob want to kill Bart?
It's a long story but here goes, in the episode 'Krusty Gets Busted' (season 1, episode 12), Sideshow Bob frames Krusty for robbery. Bart and Lisa think this isn't right and go and investigate. Bart and Lisa present their evidence and Sideshow Bob gets sent to jail. Bart did most of the work so when Bob was freed from jail, he wanted to kill Bart Simpson because Bart locked him away. Hope this makes sense!

Why did sideshowbob try to kill Bart in the first place?
First of all, sideshow bob framed Krusty because Bob hated Krusty for when he gave Bob the receiving end of Krusty's humiliating gags. So if he framed Krusty and Krusty went to jail, he could become the new host and do to the show, what he wanted to do. But then Bart realizes that Bob framed Krusty and Bob is sent to jail swearing revenge on Bart Simpson (see season 1, episode 12 "Krusty gets busted").
