Pluto never became a planet, or stopped being one. Pluto didn't change significantly; what changed wasa) the knowledge about Pluto (it is smaller than was originally assumed), and

b) the definition of "planet" (which was probably NOT clearly defined when Pluto was discovered).

Pluto is not considered a planet anymore but some people call it the dwarf planet because of it's small size.

Pluto was reclassified as a dwarf planet in 2006. It is the second largest of the 5 dwarf planets: Eris, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and the asteroid Ceres.

Pluto never actually became a planet. When it was discovered in 1930 it was assumed to be the ninth planet. It was referred to as such until 2006, when it was reclassified as a dwarf plant.

At first astronomers thought that any sizeable large object which orbited the sun was a planet. However in 2006, it was reclassified as a dwarf planet.
