Robert Pattinson isn't playing the part of Christian Grey because it was offered to Jamie Dornan. After his Twilight fame, it would be difficult for readers to see him playing a different well known character. Additionally, Robert has said that he feels overly identified as Edward Cullen. He decided to focus on different parts so that he would not be labeled with the same types of roles for the rest of his career. Additionally, production may not have felt that Robert Pattinson would be believable as Christian Grey.
