I was a young teenager when this show 1st aired and it shocked us all - no one saw that coming. The writers said they wanted to remind people that while this was a comedy show it was also about war and that good people died The producers wanted to show that not everybody got home safe from the war.

The actor who played Henry, McLean Stevenson, left the show because he wanted to pursue other acting opportunities.
